In No Straight Roads, the main location of Vinyl City is powered by music, most of which is supplied from the Grand Quaza by the No Straight Roads company. This is actually one of the main topics covered in the game as blackouts have become the norm and Mayday and Zuke (AKA Bunkbed Junction) have risen up to take down NSR and stop the blackouts. I'll be calculating the energy needed to power Vinyl City and seeing how that applies to the characters of No Straight Roads.
For a base of reference, I'll be comparing the energy consumption of Vinyl City with New York City. In-universe, Vinyl City is characterized as the music capitol of the world and is technologically advanced. It should also be noted that the city is split into separate districts that can only be accessed through music, which in turn physically moves the entire district and parts of the city (but I have no clue how to calc that and am too lazy to actually try to figure that out).
According to a report on New York City's electricity output, NYC's annual energy consumption in 2016 was 52.5 Terawatt-Hours, or 52.5e12 Watt-Hours. Watt-Hours refers to how many watts were generated in an hour, and one watt-hour is equivalent to 3600 joules.
Accounting for 2016 being a leap year (i.e. having 366 days)
52.5e12 / 366 = 1.43442623e11 Watt-Hours
1.43442623e11 * 3600 = 5.16393443e14 J
Energy consumption of Vinyl City per day: 5.16393443e14 Joules, or 123,420.995 Tons of TNT (123.421 Kilotons, Large Town Level)
Now before I get into the percentages part as addressed in the feat, the one issue with this result is that it is the result of energy being consumed over the course of a full day. It does not account for the energy being consumed at the specific moment of time, and as such yields considerably lower numbers.
Using the same 1.43442623e11 Watt-Hours from earlier,
1.43442623e11 Watt-Hours / 24 Hours = 5.97677596e9 Watts, or 5.97677596e9 J/s
Energy consumption per second: 5.97677596e9 Joules, or 1.428 Tons of TNT (Building Level)
At first I found this result disappointing, especially since the blackouts played such a pivotal factor into B2J's motivation for taking on NSR, but a part of me thinks that the lower end can actually be used to justify the higher end that I got earlier. In the cutscene linked there's an implication that even when they're not actively performing at the current moment, the Grand Quaza is still receiving music to power the city, which may suggest that the power supplied by B2J is passive. This would fit relatively well with the other showcases of actively using music for an array of other feats, such as:
- DJ Subatomic Supernova and Eve manipulating the environment around them
- Yinu conjuring a multitude of music notes, large and small, to attack her enemies
- Tatiana's fire and time manipulation coming from her guitar in the clockwork crown (Even directly stated by Zuke)
- B2J and all of the NSR Artists combining their powers to stop the NSR satellite from crashing into the NSR Tower
- City districts being physically moved by B2J's music whenever they obtain a Platinum Disc
With all that in mind, I think it's reasonable enough to use the daily energy output of Vinyl City to gague B2J's peak in terms of AP. And if we were to use the numerous 47% statements throughout the game:
B2J's Grand Quaza Output at 47%: 2.42704918e14 Joules, or 58,007.868 Tons of TNT (58.008 Kilotons, Town Level)
Per Second: 2.8090847e9 Joules, or 0.671 Tons of TNT (Building Level)
As for who scales to this, basically every artist that Mayday and Zuke fought in the game (except DK West, sadly) should scale to B2J AP-Wise, especially since the NSR Artists combined were also capable of producing a consistent 47% energy output for the Grand Quaza before B2J took over.
